VIVAnews - The popularity of the Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono with the 2009 Elections just around the corner, is on the rise.
The latest survey by Indonesian Survey Agency (LSI) publicized on January 4 showed that Yudhoyono's popularity has left other figures' far behind.
According to the survey, Yudhoyono gained 43 percent of votes out of 2,200 respondents, a significant increase by 30 percent compared to the previous survey which showed that Yudhoyono only gained 32 percent of votes.
This leaves Megawati behind, whose votes reached 19 percent, compared to a previous 24 percent. Other figures only gain less than five percent of votes.
If the voters were only provided by two candidates -- Yudhoyono and Megawati -- Yudhoyono is still on top with 59:25. This is an improvement compared to the previous survey that LSI conducted which placed Yudhoyono atop Megawati by 49:36.
According to LSI Director Saiful Mujani, the rise of Yudhoyono's popularity is mostly caused by the image of Yudhoyono's policies that people viewed as excellent.
"Up until December 2008, the public has become more informed of the success of the Yudhoyono administration," said Mujani.
LSI noted that by mid 2008, Yudhoyono was still below Megawati with a five point disparity. At that time, Megawati gained 30 percent of votes while Yudhoyono only acquired 25 percent of votes.
With regard to other candidates: Prabowo only gained five percent of votes; Sri Sultan five percent; Wiranto three percent.
Meanwhile, Vice President Jusuf Kalla only gained two percent; Hidayat Nur Wahid two percent; Amien Rais one percent; Akbar Tandjung one percent; respondents voting for "other candidates" four percent; and ucnertain responders 15 percent.
The research took place between 10 and 22 December 2008 in various Indonesian regions. The margin of errors was around 2.2 percent and the confidence rate reached 95 percent. The research applied multi-stage random sampling method.
