VIVAnews - The Indonesian government is disappointed that the United Nations Security Council’s resolution is being ignored. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono proposed that the UN issue a new resolution that includes a new, more effective mechanism
“If this resolution cannot be effective in putting an end to Israel’ attacks, to achieve cease fire by both parties, then there need to be a new resolution or a new mechanism that can be fully implemented and abided by those involved in the conflict,” said Yudhoyono in a press conference at the Presidential office, Jakarta, Saturday, Jan. 10.
Yudhoyono stated that the UN Security Council Resolution No. 1860 has proven to be ineffective in that it has gone unheeded by both Israel and Palestine. “Violence is still occurring, victims are still falling, the tragedy of humanity is in a state of dire crisis at the moment. It is estimated that the number of children and women victims is quite high,” said Yudhoyono.
Indonesia still holds the same position, demanding that Israel and Palestine cease violence, and especially for Israel to stop its attacks. Even though Indonesia no longer sits at the UN Security Council, it will still continue to voice its opinion.
“And outside of this diplomatic realm, Indonesia will continue to give aid. Whether it’s US$1 million cash aid, medicines, health, a team of doctors to Palestine,” said Yudhoyono.
