Indonesian Soccer Players Association Founded

VIVAnews - A new association for professional football players playing in Indonesia is finally founded. The Indonesian Association of Professional Football Players (APPI) is listed as the first association of professional soccer players in Southeast Asia.

APPI was initiated in May 2008. Five months after its establishment, a congress of Fédération Internationale des Associations de Footballers Professionnels (FIFPro) - the worldwide representative organization for all professional players - inaugurated APPI as member. It will cooperate with the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) and Indonesian Soccer League Agency (BLI).

"For the time being, Indonesia already parallels with Australia and Japan when it comes to ownership of an association that can protect the rights of professional soccer players," said Brendan Scwab on Thursday, Jan 29.

According to APPI President Vennard Hutabarat, APPI is a professional organization. APPI will also provide supports and consultancy to professional soccer players who play in Indonesia so that they are able to proportionally exercise their rights and carry out their obligations.

"With the presence of APPI, which is supported by international organizations, we proudly announce that the rights of soccer players [in Indonesia] will be monitored and protected. Hopefully, it will positively contribute to the progress of the Indonesian football," said Hutabarat.
